Reshma Derasari
Reshma is a member of the Charity and Education law team, where she provides comprehensive legal advice and support to senior leaders and governing bodies of schools and universities. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of issues affecting the education sector, including employment -related matters and consumer protection. Reshma advises maintained schools and academy trusts on the establishment and governance of academies, collaborating effectively with the Charity Commission, the Department for Education, and other governmental entities to achieve her clients' objectives.
Prior to joining LBMW, Reshma worked at a nationally recognised ‘Top 60’ law firm specialising in civil litigation and employment law. Her focus included disciplinary and fitness to practise cases, as well as discrimination and harassment in the workplace. As an Advocate within the London and South-East court circuit, Reshma represented clients across a wide spectrum of civil litigation, including insolvency, housing, personal injury, and contractual disputes. She also appeared in the Employment Tribunal.
Reshma has taught law at both graduate and postgraduate levels and served as the Supervising Solicitor of a pro bono legal advice clinic. As a legal academic, Reshma developed course and examination material for the national solicitors’ vocational examination and has been an external examiner for several London universities.
Reshma’s insider knowledge of universities gives her a unique perspective into the legal and regulatory challenges faced by the higher-education sector. She is therefore uniquely placed to advise universities and colleges as part of her wider employment and charity law background.
